Title: Metaverse – crossing gaming to industry

Abstract

Metaverse is a digital copy of the real world, and it presents an entry point for fully connected, immersive and engaging 3D experience. It is a digital space where users can enter and interact with other users virtually. Metaverse is touted as the next generation of the Internet, although some argued it is a hype.

The origins and early development of Metaverse can be traced back to the virtual game platform such as the “Second Life” in the1990s when Internet, VR and AR technologies began to flourish, laying the foundation for the construction of virtual worlds.

Metaverse can bring significant changes to manufacturing as it can account for how humans interact with factory equipment. Digital twins, already well established in the sector, are digital replicas of a system, but humans are not a dynamic part. On the other hand, the Metaverse allows humans to interact dynamically in environments made up of digital images.

This talk addresses the future development and challenges of DT in the Metaverse environment, where humans interact with DT facilities and Avatars which can be trained and impart knowledge to novice human operators.
